With profound cultural background, it is the center of ancestor worship for Chinese all over the world and one of the birthplaces of Chinese nation. It is reputed as "the first ancestor temple of China" and "the best ancestor temple in China". Houtu Temple is a national key cultural relic protection unit. It is located east of E’mei Mountain ridge and west of Yellow River. It is 240 meters long from north to south, 105 meters wide from east to west, and covers an area of 25,268 square meters. In the temple, existing buildings include main gate, character stage, five-tiger hall in the east and west, sacrificial hall, xiangting pavilion, main hall, autumn wind tower, and stele gallery of emperor Song Zhenzong. The history books have recorded the words "huangtian houtu"(Heaven and Earth). Hanwu Emperor of the Han Dynasty visited Hedong District for 8 times and made sacrifices here 6 times. He left the eternal Ode to the Autumn Wind. The three highlights of Houtu Temple are autumn wind tower which is famous by Ode to the Autumn Wind, the character stage integrating Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism, and the exquisite three-carving(wood carving,  stone carving and brick carving) art.
