Issue time:2021-09-04

Xinjiang Catholic Church is located in the midsection of Zhengping Street in Xinjiang County, covering an area of 1037 square meters. In 1937, Kong Zhaoming, a Dutch missionary from Jiangzhou diocese helped financing the church. It is one of the four famous Gothic churches in China together with the churches in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Qingdao. Currently, it has jurisdiction over Catholics in 13 counties, cities and districts of Yuncheng City.

The church building is magnificent and featured by spires. The bell towers on both sides are 43 meters high, 52 meters interior long and 28 meters wide. In particular, there is no upright post in the huge arched building inside the church, which is replaced by nine huge arches, with original design and beautiful appearance. It is an important example to study the architectural form, structure and evolution of ancient Chinese and western buildings. Also, it has important physical reference value for studying the religious culture in southern Shanxi. On November 15, 2004, it was announced as a key cultural relic protection unit of Yuncheng city.
