Qinglian Cave

Qinglian Cave Nature Reserve is located at the southeast of Gushe Moutain, which is 3 km away from the 9th Residential Group (Huangtupo) in Qiaogoutou Village, Zezhang Town, Xinjiang County. Facing east, Qinglian cave is 88 meters long from the east to the west, 50 meters wide from the south to the north, and covers an area of more than 4400 square meters. Qinglian Cave is a natural stone cave in the shape of irregular semicircle. Founded in Tang Dynasty, there are main and minor altars inside the front part of the cave. A large lotus pedestal is placed upon the main altar, which is 7.4 meters long, 6.14 meters wide and 1.32 meters high. In the northwest part of the cave, there is an inner chamber where placed three altars in the south, north and west part with various memorial tablets. The original statue of the main altar has been destroyed. Opposite the altar is a stone kiln with 7 holes. In the cave there are “Memorial Monument to the Sacred Shrine” from the 18th year of Dading of Jin Dynasty (1178), “Memorial Monument for the Restoration of Qinglian Cave” from the 28th year of Jiajing of Ming Dynasty (1549), and the remaining of a two-square-meter mural from Dading period of Jin Dynasty. According to the inscription, Wang Tong (literary name is Wenzhongzi, an educationist and philosopher in Sui Dynasty) used to read and teach here. The scenic spot was announced as a county-level cultural relic protection unit in 1995.
